Scalp Micro-Pigmantation (SMP) ProductsIf you've had Scalp Micro-pigmentation performed, you know that maintaining your procedure helps reduce the cost of on-going touch-ups. Freedom Clinic's Trichologist and SMP Specialist recommends the following items for maintaining your SMP procedure:
1. An Anti-Dandruff Shampoo containing Zinc Pyrithione. Recent studies show that Zinc Pyrithione shampoo can help slow hair loss by reducing inflammation found at the base of hair follicles. Reducing your hair loss can slow the spread of your hair loss area, and the miniturization of hair follicles, and thus the amount of touch-ups you need due to increased hair loss. Further, Zinc Pyrithione is known to slow the speed of hyper-active scalps that shed skin at an excessive rate. This increased shedding of skin can greatly increase the rate of fading of your SMP.
2. A high quality Sun Screen that both moisturises and "matifies" your scalp. UV rays act on pigment in the skin by breaking it up, which allows the active structures in your skin to dispose of the pigment particles. Protecting your scalp from the sun is essential in maintaining your SMP and reducing the number of touch-ups you will require. Choose a natural or tinted sunscreen depending on your skin type.
3. For very oily or shiny scalps, a shampoo for oily scalp an help. The shine on a scalp is mostly caused by excess oils produced by the sebaceous and eccrine glands on the scalp. While the activity of sebsceous glands is reduced with hair loss, eccrine gland activity is not, so people may continue to produce sweat that can cause the scalp to appear shiny. Using a shampoo for oily scalp will help reduce this effect. Always use a shampoo for oily scalp in combination with another shampoo on analternating basis. This will help prevent the effect of over-drying the scalp. The combination of Capilia Oily Scalp Shampoo alternating with Jorgen Medeicated Shampoo is an ideal combination.
4. For those wish to clip, rather than shave their scalps, getting a nice close result is important. Hair that is left too long will often look different than the SMP due to both texture and colour differences. Keeping hair below 1mm in length is easy with a good quality mini-clipper. Freedom Clinic recommends the Peanut Clipper by Wahl. It comes with 4 length attachments, clipper oil and cleaning brush.
